Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting framework to take effect in April, 2019

The much anticipated successor to the UK’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) reporting scheme has been announced, and is expected to take effect from April 2019. The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) regulation is intended to provide a more cohesive reporting framework than current initiatives. While the scope of reporting and the number of companies impacted increases, it is expected to be aligned with existing frameworks and standards for emissions and energy reporting, therefore being easier to comply. The EU Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) 2014/95/EU entered into force in December 2014 and is now in the final stages of being transposed into Irish legislation.
